All About the Pumpkins!

I just could not contain my excitement when my Peyton and I planted our pumpkin seeds and they began to grow. I mean REALLY grow, and fast too!

As they started to out-grow their containers.... we knew it was time for planting!
We got out our tools.... digger, hose... took off our shoes
(because it's the BEST when the mud squishes between your toes!)

and dug in!

My nephew joined the fun. A boy and his hose...  a glimpse of things to come :)
We waited... and waited... and were not disappointed!

Our babies got a lot of attention. It's just amazing to sit back and enjoy the conversations of the children.

Here the girls were estimating how big the plants would grow and debated what the colors would be.

And then it began.... munch... munch... munch... every day a little more, munch... munch... munch! What was happening to our babies??!!!???! DEER! Now if you take a look in the photos... we are far, very far, away from any woods where any deer may be prancing and pawing with their wee little hoofs. So HOW could deer be eating our plants? Well, as it turns out... they were indeed jumping two fences and enjoying every last bit of our lovely pumpkin plants! Flowers, vines, leaves, all of it... GONE!
Did they eat the eggplant? NO! Did they eat the peppers? NO! Did they eat the green beans? NO!
But this hungry little guy sure did!

So we lamented the plight of our pumpkins... but not for long, there was too much fun to still be had! Sound the alert... Wal-Mart here we come! Instead of pumpkin picking in our patch...
we were pumpkin picking in a box.

Classes made predictions and graphed what kind of face they liked best. When they tallied up the results, they began to carve.

Ms. Shaquana was very brave!

The kids loved exploring the seeds and pulp as we gutted out the shell.

Active learning.....hands on fun!

and in the end it was unanimous.......

we are definitely all about the pumpkins!!!!
